The first Superman movie was released in 1978 and is based on DC Comics character Superman. Directed by Richard Donner, Superman the Movie starred Christopher Reeve as Superman and also includes Marlon Brando, Gene Hackman, Margot Kidder, and Glenn Ford among others. The plot of the movie revolves around the origin of Superman, from being the infant Kal-El of Krypton up to his teenage days in Smallville. He takes on the secret identity of reporter Clark Kent in the city of Metropolis, meets and falls in love with Lois Lane, and finds himself standing up against Lex Luthor. The film received a lot of positive reviews from critics and became a box office hit.
