Superman Returns was primarily filmed at the Fox Studios in Sydney, Australia. The movie took up the whole studio for the duration of the project. But some scenes had to be filmed in actual locations around Sydney. At the part where Clark Kent sees the TV news that the Space Shuttle Genesis is in trouble, he goes past an electronics store, and crosses the street to a deserted alleyway, this occurs at the corner of Barrack Street and York Street. The Newhart Federal Bank is not actually a bank – it’s the University House in the University of Newcastle, located around King Street and Civic Park. Finally, Kitty Kowalaski’s near-car accident (the one where she tries to get Superman’s attention away from Lex Luthor’s robbery at the Metropolitan Museum) takes place at Martin Place in Sydney.
